Ottawa West Karate Dojo

Dojo History

The Ottawa West Karate Dojo was established on September 18th, 2016, with Hashmat Khan (Sandan) as the the Dojo Leader. The dojo is affiliated with Canada Shotokan Karate. The first practice was held at the Van Lang Field House on that day. Initially, practices were held on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Soon afterwards, midday karate practices were offered at the Champlain Park Field House on Tuesdays and Thursdays. From Fall 2017 onward, the dojo location moved to the Dovercourt Recreation Centre, where kids, youth, and adult classes have since been offered on Sundays. During March-April 2018, the dojo organized an introductory karate clinic with five practices at the Bank of Canada. In February 2022, the dojo opened a new location at Carleton University. Classes for adults are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. for all levels.
